The outer sheath of cable may be cracked in some certain extreme cold climate since the coat adopts mostly PVC or rubber which becomes harden and brittle under cold conductions. In winter, especially in northern areas, the outdoor temperature is often below zero degrees, so it is necessary to avoid the damage. And following methods are recommended in cold weather:
1. Factory delivery: No directly exposed; a layer of soft cushion is strongly advised to offer a big favor; no savage loading; be sure of sufficient bending radius.
2. No savage unloading upon arriving at the destination or construction site.
3. Storage: Indoor storage, together with a layer of isolation on the surface of the storage, such as wooden boards, bedding, foam, etc., to avoid freezing and moisture. No direct contact between the product and the ground.
4. Laying out: A warm winter afternoon would be the right time to lay out the cable. A layer of protection in the cable trench beforehand, such as fabric, foam would be a good choice in the direct buried pattern. If it is a pipe, smoothness is vital so as not to scratch the cable. Special attention should be paid to iron pipe, because of the sharp edge and burs are the dangerous factors to the out sheath of the cable.
5. Special cable with low-temperature withstanding character is strongly recommended which meets GB/T2951.14-2008 requirements.
